Throughout our lives there are beneficial things that we can do to enhance our health and well being. This information is intended to help inform you about some of the recommendations for maintaining a healthy life-style as the years go by. That is a springboard to get you thinking about your health. Eat right
Exercise regularly

Vaccinations

Tetanus-diphtheria - booster every 10 years
Influenza vaccination - yearly to those at risk
Pneumococcal - age 65, and sooner for those with problem immune systems
Hepatitis B - healthcare workers and those considered at risk
Hepatitis A - those considered at risk
Measles, Mumps, Rubella - Those born prior to 1957
Varicella - all who do not have reliable history of varicella or serologically negative Meningococcal vaccine - workers in animal science/health


Testing

Urinanalysis - yearly
Pap test - yearly
Cholesterol - every 5 years
Thyroid Screen - every 5 years, unless clinical suspension
Mammogram - begin age 35-40 baseline, then yearly
Fecal occult blood test - begin age 40-45
Colon cancer screening - age 50
Bone density scanning - age 45-50, then every 3-5 years


Miscellaneous Testing

Tuberculosis skin testing
Human immunodeficiency virus testing


Of all the tests we recommend, colon cancer screening is the one which is done the least. There are several ways to screen for colon cancer, but most experts recommend colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy.
